Hello L Squad, How are you doing? Like I mentioned in this post, that my friend would be serenading us with a beautiful 12 part story, well here you have it the very first episode of “CROSSROADS”.
Crossroads is the story of Anna and Ike, a couple who go through a difficult time in their marriage. Lack of communication, unforgiveness and ultimately betrayal create cracks on the walls of their marriage. Is their love strong enough to hold the walls from collapsing? or do they need something more than the memory of a feeling they once shared in the past? Well I guess we will have to find out… Enjoy! Please don’t forget to drop a comment below and let me and Tope know what you think.
Episode 1: CROSSROADS
Anna stood at the window and watched as her husband drove into the compound. Unlike most women who were excited, angry or frustrated at seeing their husbands return home after the day’s work, Anna exhibited none of these emotions. Her expression was bland as she watched him alight from the car and bring out his personal items. She turned away from the window, gave herself one more glance in the mirror then picked her purse and walked out.
Ike opened the door and walked in, a scowl automatically forming on his face. There was once a time he used to like coming home, the anticipation of his wife waiting for him exciting him to no end. Now, that was just a memory. The joy and laughter he used to experience, gone, and even though he wished he could go back to those times, it was impossible. They were so far gone on this path, they didn’t know how to make their way back to each other anymore.
He lifted his eyes as he heard the sound of heels clicking on the tiles and beheld his wife dressed in a silk turquoise shirt and white cotton pants, a beaded purse in her hands. Her long hair was smoothed back from her face and left flowing behind her back.
“Hi,” she said as she descended the stairs.
“Where to?” He demanded in response to her greeting, his scowl deepening. For some reason, he was upset she was going out when he just arrived. She was home all day and could have gone out before he returned. He knew she couldn’t stand him but she didn’t have to rub it in.
Anna sighed irritated at his tone of voice. Why couldn’t the man just have a civil conversation with her? “Out!” She responded knowing it would irk him.
“To where?” He demanded again, frowning as he studied her. She was standing just a few feet from him and he was struck at how beautiful she was. It wasn’t everyday she dressed and made up since she didn’t have to leave the confines of their home to do her work, but when she did, she was always stunning.
“I’m going clubbing,” she replied casually.
He chuckled mirthlessly at her response, a look of disdain on his face as he spoke. “You are a married woman, not a single lady!”
“And married women don’t deserve to have fun?” She queried with one well drawn eyebrow raised.
Ike had a feeling she was mocking him. Truth was, his marriage was a mockery and maybe he should take Wonu’s advice and just let it go. Until then however, she was still his wife and he didn’t want her clubbing. “If you are looking for fun, find it somewhere else, not in a club,” he answered tersely.
“Okay!” She replied and reached for the door.
“So where are you going to?” He demanded again. Ike had expected her to go back upstairs, not still head out. He heard as she sighed as if he was a pest who was becoming increasingly annoying and the thought darkened his mood. Her response aggravated him more.
“Going to have fun but not in a club,” she said with a hint of sweet sarcasm as she reached for the door and walked out.
He took deep breaths to calm his raging anger, willing himself not to go and drag his wife from her car and back into the house. Ike didn’t know how long he could continue with this facade as he paced up and down, his ears drawn to the sound of his wife’s car as she drove out of the compound.
He paced a few more minutes and snapped at Esther, the housekeeper, who came to ask if he was ready for dinner. Food was the last thing on his mind even though his stomach growled in response. The last time he had a meal was when he snacked on a sandwich in the morning as he made his way to the quarterly performance review meeting at the office. He glared at the closed door imagining the look on his wife’s face just before she walked out. He’d had enough, he thought as he walked through the same door and headed for his car…
