Happy Mother’s Day Mom…

Happy Mother’s Day Mom…

“Of all the gifts that life has to offer, a loving mother is the greatest of them all” – Unknown

It was such a surreal experience, seeing my mom, for the first time after 14 years. All I could think was 14 years of sacrifice; such love!. I literally held back my tears, I honestly didn’t know where the strength came from, but I was determined I wasn’t going to make her cry,by crying. We were going to laugh all evening and catch up on the little moments we’ve missed; Like sleeping beside her like old times, oh! how I have missed this…

This probably for me is unarguably one of my best moments in 2016. I kept asking myself why would someone sacrifice so much for her children? I just couldn’t phantom it, all that was coming to mind was Jacob’s story in the bible. His willingness to still serve another 7 years just to have Rachel become his wife. My mom just like Jacob knew exactly what she wanted and won’t settle, until she saw us through school.

I was barely 16, when my mom left the country, in search of a better life for Us (my sister and I). It was one of the toughest decisions she had to make at the time. A lot had happened after her retirement, She was swindled of a large chunk of her retirement money and savings, having worked for about 20 years as an Accountant for one  of Nigeria’s oldest and arguably among the strongest of it’s time Union Bank of Nigeria. Her other businesses, wasn’t doing so well too (that’s a story for another day)

It was a very trying moment for us, most especially for her, as a single mother of two with no one to really talk to except God.  She would secretly cry sometimes and oh! I added to her pain because I was a very tough child growing up till Jesus saved my soul 😂😂😂.

See ehn, if you see me very passionate about Single Moms or Kids from broken homes, It’s because I understand what it means to be raised by one. I understood what it meant when the scriptures says “Two are better than one because they have a more satisfying return for their labor;  for if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion.”

Her determination to make the world a better place for us made her make some decisions that has helped me become who I am today with the help of God which I am forever grateful. One of those decisions was taking us along with her when she left my dad even though she loved her husband and refused to remarry hoping a reconciliation would happen but death didn’t make it happen. (anyways what’s not to love about my dad 😉 He’s a cool guy though and a wife not cook kind of guy 😆😆😆)

P.S: You can read all about my Forgiveness and Reconciliation Journey with my Dad Here, Here, and Here.

I do hope, someday I would be able to write a book, to celebrate my mom, my first teacher whose expressions of love speaks more than a thousand words and share some more on the trials, travails and Triumphs of a single mom. But before then, I choose to Celebrate her and every single mom who has and who is still sacrificing and fighting to make the world a better place for their kids.

I know, that it’s not only single mom that make sacrifices for their children, so to all the Moms in the World and in my life ( all my baby mama’s included 😆😆😆 you all know yourselves) HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!

To all the fathers as well playing the role of a mother in their children’s life HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!

And to a very special set of Mother’s; who are awaiting the physical manifestation of their kids. HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!

Here’s a little message to encourage you “Dear Waiting Mom

Hey! before you leave, wish someone a Happy Mother’s Day in the comment session.

Till my next post; Be a Blessing.

But I will Sing of your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense And refuge in the day of my trouble. Psalms 59:16

Aaaaw this post is really emotional and it shows how much mum means to you. I can totally relate to the part of being away from mum for some years. That happened to me and my siblings too when mum moved to the UK in search of a better life for us all. We later reunited 5 years after she had moved. Hope she had a good mothers day.x
