When Last Did You Count Your Blessings? 5 Things You Should Always Be Grateful For

Today, I am sure from the title ” When Last Did You Count Your Blessings? 5 Things You Should Always Be Grateful For.” you can already guess what I want to talk about. However, this post is one of the posts that I didn’t  pre-plan. I was just doing my thing when it jumped at me “When Last Did You Count Your Blessings? And just before I could answer, the thought progressed “5 Things You Should Always Be Grateful For”. My response could not come in words thereafter, but with the hum of this song:

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings; name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

This song is one of the songs that has helped me stay grounded over the past year. It’s one default song in my subconscious, for days when I feel like nothing is working in my life 😆😆😆 Yes! I know right – isn’t that a big lie from the Devil???

Well, the devil is seriously spreading that lie, because one of the most central themes in my recent talks with people this past week is: “Lara, nothing is working!” and what I simply do when I hear such recitals is help people count their blessings.

When Last Did You Count Your Blessings? 5 Things You Should Always Be Grateful For.

You see, about a year ago, I battled depression. In fact, I got into Year 2016 depressed, which got worse towards the middle of the year, because I felt I wasn’t progressing with my life, I felt I was stagnant. However, every other person was seeing something different – some would even wish they had the kind of life I had.

N.B: Just before I go on, let me stop here to say, please never, ever wish for anyone’s life, because you don’t have an idea of what they are really going through. The better thing to always wish for is a better version of your own life…

So, back to the matter, I wasn’t seeing what anyone was seeing simply because I focused on where I am supposed to be but I had not gotten to. I focused on the things I did not have while ignoring the things I had. However, all that changed immediately I decided to change my perspective to see what I have, appreciate where I am in my life’s journey and be hopeful for a better tomorrow.

So, here are 5 things you should always be grateful for:

The only reason why you can still earn a right to complain is because you are still alive. Dead people don’t get to complain about anything, no matter how badly they are treated, they can’t complain because there’s no life in them. Excuse me Sir/Ma, when last did you genuinely say, Lord I am grateful for the gift of life and you really meant it because you understand that it’s truly a gift?

Having life is a sign that there’s still hope and things can turn around… There’s no hope for a dead man. That’s why the scriptures says in Ecclesiastes 9:4 – For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

There are some people that are alive, but don’t have their subconscious working; we usually refer to them as “Mad Men”. Some even refer to them as “Living Corpse”. That you can read and comprehend is more than enough reason to be grateful and know that something is working in your life. It’s because your subconscious is working that’s why you can tell, that you only have 3 pairs of trousers or just 2 pairs of sneakers while your friend has 7pairs. When last did you count your mental health as something that is working in your life? You can start today.

And I will sum this up into Food and Shelter. I was talking to someone on Tuesday who was complaining bitterly about how nothing was working and that she’s sharing her mom’s store to be able to do her business. At that point, I was like: “girl, you even have a store to share? I wish I had a store I can share. Some don’t even have a mom, but you do! Shouldn’t you be thankful for what you have?

You see, if you have a Shelter over your head where you can lay to sleep every night, whether it’s one that leaks anytime it rains or the one that you are sharing with someone, it’s enough to be grateful for every day. There are people who sleep wherever the night meets them.

Same with food – even if you don’t have 3 square meal or a different meal options to always choose from, that you can find something to eat every single time you are hungry is something to always be grateful for. Same goes for having appetite!

It’s the little things we take for granted that really counts. Have you seen those children they show on documentaries that are malnourished? If you, your parents, your siblings or your children don’t look anything near that, please wake up every day and say: “Lord, for this little gift, I am grateful!”

My very dear friend and sister Adenike whose story I shared in this post, organised a one-limb challenge, where people use only one of their limbs to either dance, walk, run or just do anything fun. Her intention was to raise awareness for people living with a limb loss. Boy! Guess you should try it for you to appreciate how it feels. So, my darling sisters and brothers, just in case you still don’t know what to be grateful for, thank him for those eyes you are using to read this, ears you can use to hear, hands that you will use to type a comment, share and subscribe after wards😆, legs you can use to walk before your G-Wagon shows, Nose that you can use to smell.

That saying that Health is Wealth! Is no joke. As I type this post, I am actually feeling a little weak, and it’s been on for like two days now. There’s are few things I had planned to do but I can’t. However I am grateful that I can still type this post. Having good health is one of the many things money cannot buy. If you have good health, just know that you are a billionaire! even Bill Gates, Aliko Dangote and my Humble Self has got nothing on you dear 😉 (wait, what were you thinking that I won’t include myself in the league of us billionaires? 😋 😆😆)

The scriptures says:

Except the Lord keeps the city, the watchman wakes but in vain. Psalm 127:1

The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD. Proverbs 21:31

The world is so full of evil, that it’s only by the grace of God we are kept safe. When last did you thank God for safety? The same road you ply, so many people have also plied and died… That alone is enough to show that something is working and God has a better plan for your life.

I hope with these few points of mine I have been able to convince you that you have a whole lot working in your life.

“Whenever you are looking up, never forget to look down…” Selah

Do have an amazing weekend… What are you grateful for today? Please don’t forget to like, comment, and share 😘😘😘
